About Hospital Linens

The hospital is a busy place with a full staff that keeps the place running smoothly and efficiently. The doctors and nurses may be the front line people that you see during your stay as they are the ones who will oversee your procedure and your recovery. Within the hospital there are many other faceless people in the foreground working to keep things running for you.

The groundskeeper is on a constant watch for weeds growing the flower beds, keeping insects and pests away so as not to disturb patients or visitors. The cafeteria is full of people working hard to make sure you and several thousand other people have their meals hot and on time. The technicians and electricians are in the back ground taking care of any failures and completing upgrades to ensure you never see a pause in the technology the hospital has to offer.

What about the Hospital linens. You have workers behind the scenes that will spend their days doing nothing but washing, drying, and folding the linens you will be provided with during your stay.

The hundreds of sheets, and blankets and thousands of towels and wash clothes that come through the laundry room in a day’s time is in incredible and can be very overwhelming to the ones that are responsible for cleaning and returning them to the patients.

With such a busy place and everyone hustling to keep up with it, even the smallest of glitches can cause production to suffer. Hospital linens are purchased with several ideas in mind, the first idea is that it keeps the patient comfortable, the materials soft enough, the weight correct, and the size efficient. The second idea would be that the item would be durable and long lasting, that it could be used and washed several times without falling apart or losing its new appearance. The Third idea is that the ease of washing and drying be at the maximum.

With the comfort of the patient in mind, the soft materials do their job and the size of the sheets are all standard to the beds, along with the pillow cases. The towels are made large enough to dry anyone but not large enough to cause an overload in the washer, they are lightweight so large quantities can be washed at once and they will dry quickly.

The durability in mind is that the items will need to be washed in hot water, usually bleached for sanitary reasons, and dried at a very high heat, there should be minimal shrinkage and the materials need to hold up to the bleach and the heat.

Keeping in mind the ease of washing the linens, the hospital takes in to consideration the amount of linens that will need to be washed daily. The materials should be light weight enough to wash several together at once, lightweight enough to dry very quickly and wrinkle free as to save time from having to press the sheets and pillow cases as they come out.
