About Lab Coats

The basic white lab coat is very distinguished and carries a feel of importance to the one who wears it. It makes a statement and does not need to be tampered with; the style is perfect and the design on target. Its space is utilized well with inside hidden pockets, chest pockets and side slits. Each individual will have different needs and the lab coat can be suited to those needs, there is indeed a lab coat for everyone.

The main goal of the white lab coat is not to just look important, but for it to help the one wearing it do their jobs. The pockets are placed perfectly on the chest for easy right hand or left hand reaching, there are inside pockets for your pens or cell phone, there are usually pockets on the side as well a little larger than the others, giving you the space that you may need for note pads or prescription pads.

Comfort is very important when choosing a lab coat; you want to be able to move freely and easily. There should be enough room in the shoulders to allow you to reach above your head without pulling the jacket up and constricting you, you do not want so much room though that it hangs on you like you are a small child wearing daddy’s clothes.

The designs have changed a little over the years, you can get a lab coat for a man or woman or a unisex one. The men’s have longer arms, the shoulders are broader and the sizes are generally just a little bigger. The women’s are slightly slimmer, they have a little more detail to them such as darts for tapering and giving a more fitting sliming effect while wearing. The unisex lab coats are generally very basic; similar to the men’s but the sizing is slightly different, more suited for man or woman and not specifically tailored to either one in particular.

You see lab coats in the hospital every where you turn, but they are also used in high schools and colleges around the country. Laboratories and factories have their employees wear them as clothing protectors and as part of a uniform. They come in full length, or mid length and depending on they are being used for, several different colors other than just white.

I have recently noticed that the man at the deli or the butcher shop is wearing one as well, and this would be mainly for protection of his clothes, they have no pockets and the sleeves are slightly shorter as to not get caught in meat grinders and such.

The coats can be for many different uses and the individual wearing it needs to make sure that it fits their needs. Certain areas of detail should not be ignored, such as safety, need for space, and correct sizing. The style and tapering, whether you want a collar or not, or added pleats should only be worried about after the uses for the coat have been determined and decided.
