About Patient Gowns
Patient gowns have come a long way since the day of one size fits all and what ever you had done you wore the gown that tied in the back…well sometimes tied. I always loved the ones that had a broken strap, so it just hung open in the back and let all your business hang out.
The gowns today have been made to fit you and your procedure, no more wearing the same thing as every one else. If you just gave birth to a baby, you will be given a gown that opens in the front for easy nursing, allowing you the flexibility of nursing in the room with family and friends present and sparing you the humiliation of something you were trying to hide falling out your robe. You may also be given a choice of a full size robe that makes you feel more like you are at home in your house coat, these too open in the front for easy examination if there are abdominal incisions or for your nurse to help with nursing.
Once out of surgery the health care provider will need to check your recovery, there are many different procedures and this can be troublesome for the nurse trying to move you off the gown so that you can be examined, not to mention very stressful for the patient who is sore already and does not want to be moved around too much. The patient gowns today are offered in different styles to help the hospital decide what fits you and your situation the best, should you have a back opening robe, a front opening?
The ease of the gowns has changed with snaps and Velcro being used instead of only the kind that tie. They are made out of better fabric and feel better next to skin. The mammography gowns are being offered in cape styles so that the patient only has to undress from the top up and they are actually very stylish and comfortable enough that the patient does not feel awkward walking from one exam room to another. They also offer gowns that only come to waist line to allow the same ease of only removing the top garment, you can have them snap or Velcro but either way they offer the same privacy the patient desires.
You can get the gowns in linen material so they can be washed and used again and again or they are offered in disposable materials so that the patient uses it once and it is tossed away, when the next patient arrives they will receive a fresh new gown.
The patterns have not changed much, with the exception of the mammography gowns now have the pink awareness color, there are more colorful gowns available today along with the same drab ones we have all came to know and love.
Your next visit in the hospital might surprise you with the new gown styles and colors, although you are not going to want to walk down the runway in them, they at least will be better suited for a stroll down the hospital hallway.
